Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 28, 2026

1. Introduction

Village Life, LLC (“Village,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) operates the Village platform at joinvillage.life. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, how we use it, with whom we share it, and the rights you have over your data. It applies to all users of joinvillage.life, including guests, members, and guardians of minor members.

By creating an account or using the Village platform, you agree to the collection and use of your information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

2. Information We Collect

Account information

Name, email address, and either a password (stored as a one-way hash) or a Google OAuth identity linked to your account.

Location data

Street address and GPS coordinates — required for the service to function (neighborhood matching, discovery radius). See Section 5 for details.

Profile content

Profile photo, bio, and any other content you voluntarily add to your profile.

Payment information

Credit and debit card data is processed directly by Stripe. Village never receives or stores card numbers, bank details, or raw payment credentials.

Provider payout information

Providers who accept cash payments set up a Stripe payout account. Stripe collects the bank account and identity details needed to verify the account and send payouts. Village does not receive or store these details.

Phone number

If you verify your phone (a Verified-membership benefit), your number is used solely to send and confirm a one-time verification code.

Tax information

If you earn $600 or more in cash through Village in a calendar year, we collect the tax identification information (such as an SSN or EIN) required to issue an IRS Form 1099. It is stored securely and used only for required tax reporting.

ID verification

Government-issued ID documents submitted for identity verification are processed entirely by Didit, our identity verification provider. Village receives only a pass/fail result and the verified name from your document — never the document itself. We do not store, view, or retain copies of your documents.

Usage data

IP address, device type, browser, pages visited, and timestamps — collected automatically via Cloudflare as part of normal platform operation.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • Operate and improve the Village platform
  • Verify your home address and neighborhood eligibility
  • Process payments and subscriptions via Stripe
  • Pay out cash earnings to providers via Stripe, and issue required tax forms (1099)
  • Send transactional emails (verification, exchange notifications, receipts) via Resend
  • Enforce community standards and our Terms of Service
  • Comply with applicable legal obligations

We do not use personal information to show ads or build advertising profiles. Ever.

4. How We Share Your Information

Village shares data only with service providers necessary to operate the platform:

CloudflareHosting and CDN
CloudinaryProfile photo and listing image storage
StripePayment processing, provider payouts (Stripe Connect), and tax reporting
DiditGovernment ID verification — processes your ID document and selfie; Village receives only the result and verified name
ResendTransactional email delivery
GoogleOAuth sign-in (if used)

We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information to any third party. We do not share data for advertising purposes.

We may disclose information if required by law, court order, or to protect the safety of our community members.

5. Location Data

Location data (address and GPS coordinates) is required to use Village — it determines which neighborhood you belong to and who can see your listings. Your street address is never shared with other members. Your neighborhood name is visible on your public profile. You may optionally choose to show your street name (not your house number) on your profile in Settings.

Discovery radius defaults to 5 miles and can be adjusted in your profile settings. Location data is used only for neighborhood matching and listing discovery — never for advertising or third-party targeting.

6. ID Verification

Individual neighbors may require ID verification before agreeing to an exchange (for example, for in-home services such as cleaning, childcare, or caregiving). This is a choice made by the individual member, not a requirement imposed by Village.

The verification process is handled entirely by Didit, our identity verification provider. Village receives only a verified / not-verified result and the verified name from your document, which becomes the name shown on your profile. We do not store, view, or retain copies of government-issued ID documents. Verification results are associated with your Village account and visible only to you.

7. Data Retention

Active accounts

Data is retained while the account is active.

Deleted accounts

Personal data is purged within 30 days of account deletion, except where retention is required by applicable law.

Payment records

Payment, payout, credit-ledger, and tax records are retained for 7 years to comply with tax and financial regulations.

Content

Listings and reviews may remain visible after account deletion in anonymized form if other members' transaction history depends on them.

8. Your Rights (Virginia VCDPA)

Virginia residents have rights under the Virginia Consumer Data Protection Act (VCDPA):

Access:Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
Correction:Request correction of inaccurate data.
Deletion:Request deletion of your personal data.
Portability:Receive your data in a portable, commonly used format.
Opt-out of sale:We do not sell personal data — this right is exercised by default.

To exercise these rights, email joinvillage.life@gmail.com. We will respond within 45 days as required by Virginia law.

9. Children's Privacy

Village does not allow users under 13. Users aged 13–17 may join only with the verified consent of a parent or legal guardian, who must approve the account and agrees to this Privacy Policy on the minor's behalf. Guardians have full visibility into their linked teen's activity and may request deletion of the teen's data at any time.

We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we learn we have done so, we will delete it promptly. If you believe your child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at joinvillage.life@gmail.com.

10. Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational safeguards to protect your data, including encrypted transit (HTTPS), hashed passwords, and access controls. No system is completely secure. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact us at joinvillage.life@gmail.com immediately.

11. Changes to This Policy

We will notify users by email at least 30 days before making material changes to this policy. Continued use of Village after the effective date of an updated policy constitutes acceptance of the changes.
